Three Voids

Disney Animation Center

The project is an animation center for the campus of Disney. It focused on creating different types of spaces distributed across the site. Three separated building masses with an internal connective courtyard – acknowledging that people are accessing the site from multiple directions. Three types of volumes among the masses was created- a volume on the site, a volume between the buildings and a volume inside. The “gallery” and the boundary of the site contains the volume in between. The “office cluster” contains the volume underneath. The “stacks” contains the object inside, and both of the object and the building mass contains the atrium, the pocket and the spaces in between as volumes of this project.

The project wants to create a playful place for working, playing and learning. The bent spine is composed of different geometry segments.  The stacks of blocks make roofs like terraces. People can walk in the buildings, also walk on top of the building and walk through the building. With the dynamic roof top spaces, this iteration has the possibility to create a playful roof space. Also, it creates the flexible circulation and a big public space in the center of the site. The layout of the building is same as the Siena Piazza in Tuscany, Italy.
